WESTERN EUROPE – WESTERN CHINA INCREASES CARGO TURNOVER

In Kazakhstan, the cargo turnover on the Western Europe – Western China Transit Corridor reached 600 thousand tons in 2017. Vice-Minister for Investments and Development Roman Sclyar said this during a press conference following the meeting of the Government.

According to him, 160 thousand tons of cargo passed through this route in Kazakhstan in 2009. In general, the cargo turnover on this Transit Corridor was 13 million tons in 2009. As predicted by the Ministry for Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2020 these indicators will reach 33 million tons of cargo per year.

As the Vice-Minister noted, the Western Europe - Western China International Transit Corridor is the shortest route for transporting goods from China to Kazakhstan, Central Asian countries, western regions of Russia and Europe. When carrying goods by road, the cargo delivery from the central provinces of China to St. Petersburg takes no more than 10 days, while by sea the same route takes 45 days.

“The length of the Transit Corridor in our country is 2,787 km. In the current year, we have entirely completed all works required on this corridor,” - R. Sklyar said.

According to the Vice-Minister, the countries that participated in the construction of this corridor, together with the strengthening of the countries’ transit potential, also received an internal effect, namely development of the regions. For example, in our country the Corridor includes 200 settlements with the total population of 5.5 million people. Significant impulse is expected in the development of small and medium businesses, services, tourism and other sectors of the economy.

Roman Sklyar is sure that Western Europe - Western China Transit Corridor gives a serious economic effect both for our country and for other countries-participants of the corridor.
