4,400 km of roads will be reconstructed by the end of 2019 in Kazakhstan

2,400 km of republican roads have been constructed and reconstructed since the beginning of Nurly Zhol State Program implementation in the road sector.

“In 2019, construction works started from Karaganda to Almaty and from Aktobe to border of the Russian Federation (to Astrakhan). By the end of the year, 641 km of reconstructed roads is expected to be opened for traffic. The works under projects Astana-Pavlodar (441 km), Shchuchinsk-Zerenda (80 km), Beineu-Akzhigit (85 km), Taskesken-Bakhty (20 km), Zhetibay-Zhanaozen (73 km) will be fully completed, ”the head of MIID RK Roman Sklyar said at the summary meeting with the population of Kazakhstan.

According to him, 1,500 km of the republican roads have been repaired. In order to ensure the standard maintenance and protection of roads, the projects on tolls collection are being implemented. At the beginning of this year, the collection of tolls started on the following road sections: Almaty-Khorgos (295 km), Almaty-Kapshagai (42 km) and Astana- Temirtau (134 km) with a total length of 471 km. In general, by the end of 2019, the annual amount collected on toll road sections (4 sections) will be about KZT5.4 billion (where the regulatory need for funding for the maintenance of these roads is KZT3.2 billion).

Next year tolling system will cover additional 5,500 km that will make it possible to significantly reduce the expenses on the road maintenance.

“In order to fulfill the order of Nursultan Nazarbayev regarding the systemic development of the interregional infrastructure, financing of the local road network in 2018 amounted to KZT156 billion on a parity basis, allowing repairing more than 4,000 km of roads. Starting from this year, we are moving from expensive capital projects mainly to an economical average repair by cold recycling. Starting from 2019, the amount allocated for the repair of the local road network will be KZT 200 billion, that will allow repairing more than 5,000 km” said Mr. Sklyar.

In the 3-year period, the annual volume of financing of local roads will be maintained at a level not lower than KZT 200 billion, for repair of up to 5,000 km per year. Such rates will be maintained in subsequent years. This will allow repairing about 30 thousand km by 2025 and improve the condition of 95% of local roads.
