Chairman of the Committee for Roads Mr. Pshembayev held the briefing devoted to upcoming road projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan

The outcomes of the work accomplished by the Committee for Roads within the framework of the Nurly Zhol State Infrastructure Development Program implementation have been presented at the briefing held on 28th of June, 2017 in the Media Center of the Ministry for Investments and Development.

For this year, 356.2 billion tenge has been allocated for the Nurly Zhol projects implementation, including 143.5 billion tenge from National Fund, used to continue construction works under the Projects: Center-South, Center-East, Beineu-Aktau, Aktobe-Atyrau, Kapshagai-Taldykorgan, Astana-Petropavlovsk and Uralsk-Kamenka with total length of 1,200 km.

According to the Chairman of the Committee for Roads of the MID RK Mereke Pshembayev, 32% of construction works planned for the year has been performed during the first six months of 2017. Works performed included the construction of 3 thousand m3 of subgrade, 22 km of sub-base, 90 km of lower base course, 33 km of upper base course, 42 km of binder course, 75 km of wearing course and 45 km of cement concrete pavement. The completion of Beineu – Aktau and Almaty – Taldykorgan roads is expected by the end of this year. In total, 602 km under these road projects is expected to be completed in 2017.

Today, four new projects have been launched with financing from the Government’s budget: Beineu-Akzhigit, Shchuchinsk-Zerenda, Taskesken-Bakhty, and Usharal-Dostyk. Announcement of the results for the Ust-Kamenogorsk – Zyryanovsk – Rakhmanovskie Klyuchi Project are expected.

According to Mr. Pshembaev, the implementation of 10 projects with a total length of 2,184 km: Taldykorgan – Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kurty – Burylbital, Merke – Burylbital, Uzynagash – Otar, Kalbatau – Maykapshagai, Southwest bypass of Astana city, Aktobe – Kandyagash, Kandyagash – Makat, Atyrau – Astrakhan and Zhetybai – Zhanaozen will be financed through the loans of the International Financial Institutions, such as IBRD, ADB, EBRD, IDB and Eximbank of People’s Republic of China. For the moment, the Loan Agreement has been signed with Asian Development Bank for rehabilitation of the Kandyagash-Makat road section. The commencement of construction works is scheduled for July 2017. As for the projects Kurty – Burylbaital, Uzynagash – Otar, and Zhetybai – Zhanaozen, signing of the Loan Agreements is planned followed by their ratification with subsequent signing of the contracts.

Regarding the Aktobe – Kandyagash and Atyrau – Astrakhan road projects, funded by the Islamic Development Bank, Loan Agreements are expected to be signed in the second half of this year. Construction works will presumably commence after the signing of Agreements.

In total, construction and rehabilitation projects are supposed to cover 4.4 thousand km of roads, involve about 100 thousand people, and employ more than 95% of the construction material produced in Kazakhstan.
