Reconstruction of one the sections of “Kurty – Burylbaital” road is carried out from funds of the World Bank

The Government of Kazakhstan is seeking the World Bank financial support for a proposed “Kurty – Burybaital” Road Section under the South West Roads Project, connecting between Almaty and Astana. The project is part of the Government’s ongoing Western Europe-Western China highway development program, for which World Bank support is already provided under an existing South-West Roads Project.

“Center – South” corridor’s “Kurty – Burylbaital” road section the with the length of 85 km, financed by the World Bank is divided into two sections km 2295-2335 and km 2335-2380.

Road Section 1: (km 2295-km2335). The project road section km 2295- km 2335 is included in the Centre-South Corridor, “Astana – Karaganda – Balkhash – Kapshagay – Almaty” Road. On administrative division the projected road section passes across the territory of Aydarly and Sartaukum rural areas of Zhambyl district of Almaty Oblast. Most of the road section will follow the existing road alignment. The length of this project road section is 40.04 km.

Road alignment of Section 1

Road Section2: (km2335- km2380) will pass on the existing road “Almaty-Astana”, starting from Kurty village. On administrative division the projected site passes across the territory of Ili and Zhambyl region of Almaty Oblast. The length of this project road section is 45 km.

Road alignment of Section 2

The existing road is Category III was constructed in 60s in the past century and the planned road section for reconstruction will be under Category Ib with 4 traffic lanes and asphalt-concrete pavement. Moreover it is planned to construct two bridges (bridge across Buryozek river and bridge across Kurty river).

Estimated construction period is 3 years (36 months).

At the moment works are commenced by the Contractor “Akkord” (Azerbaijan), construction supervision is carried out by Italian company “IRD Engineering S.r.l” in association with Kazakhstani companies “Zhol zhoba” and “Avtoban”. Project management consultant “KazDorNII” in association with “Sapa SZ” & “KHA” was assigned in July 2018.
