In 2009, a loan agreement was signed between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for reconstruction of "Western Europe - Western China" International Transit Corridor road sections.
Based on the results of the project on the reconstruction of the road in Kyzylorda and South Kazakhstan oblasts, which was completed this year, there were savings in IBRD loan.
The Government decided to use savings for implementation of “Kurty – Burylbaital” and "Uzynagash-Otar" projects, under which on 26 September 2017 an additional agreement was signed between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Reconstruction of these sections is envisaged by the State Program for Infrastructure Development "Nurly Zhol" for 2015 - 2019.
The Kurty-Burylbaytal section, 85 km long (I category with 4-lane traffic), is part of the "Center-South" corridor and is part of the republican road "Astana-Karaganda-Balkhash-Kurty-Kapshagai-Almaty".
The 96 km long Uzinagash-Otar road section (I category with 4 lanes traffic) is part of the Almaty-Kordai-Blagoveshchenka-Merke-Tashkent-Termez republican road.
The estimated amount of expenses for the reconstruction of the sections is USD 319.2 million, including the loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development - USD 271.3 million and co-financing from the republican budget - USD 47.9 million.
The Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has begun to select contracting companies, as well as a consultant for the supervision of construction. Contracts will be concluded after the loan agreement comes into force.
Completion of works under sections is planned for 2021.
