The Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been implementing a project for “Aktobe - Makat” road reconstruction, connecting Corridors CAREC 1 and 6, since November 2017. The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank.

The proposed project includes the reconstruction of section km 160 - km 468 of Aktobe-Makat road, including: (i) km 160 - km 330 in Aktobe oblast; and (ii) km 330 - km 468 in Atyrau oblast.

The project is implemented within the framework of “Nurly Zhol” state program and will solve the issue of safe and comfortable connection of two oblast centers and significantly reduce the travel time.

To date, from 7 road sections with a total length of 299 km construction works are being conducted on 4 sections. On three lots (4, 5 and 6) after the termination of contracts with unconscientious contractor “Tasayapi Insaat Taahut ve Ticaret A.S”, a new tender was announced. And according to the results of the retender procedures, potential suppliers have been identified, who will begin the works approximately in September 2018.

Km 160 - 220 (length 60 km) - Todini Construzioni Generali S.p.A

Km 236 - 275 (length 39 km) - Industrial construction investment corporation Akkord

Km 275 - 330 (length 55 km) - Todini Construzioni Generali S.p.A

Km 330-370 (length 40 km) - Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd

Km 370-418 (length 48 km) - Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd

Km 418 - 458 (length 40 km) - JV “Industrial Construction Investment Corporation Akkord” OJSC and “Ak Zhol Kurylys” LLP

Km 487 - 504 (length 17 km) - Ant Insaat Maden Sanayi A.S.

At the same time, about 1500 new work places will be created for the project implementation period, of which 90% will be presented to local population. Today, the project employs more than 700 people. “Construction Management” Branch of JSC NC “KazavtoZhol” is Project Management Consultant and it carries out constant and systemic control over the project implementation.

In accordance with the contracts conditions the contracting organizations created the necessary living conditions for workers in camps: they are provided with three-time hot meals a day, sleeping provision, medical centers, a bath and laundry facilities.
