The share of Kazakhstan’s roads in good and satisfactory condition is expected to reach 100% by 2026.
In his first message, the President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said that KZT1.2 trillion of investments will be allocated by 2022 for the implementation of the Nurly Zhol program. LS have learned what roads are planned to be repaired using these funds.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development, 13 projects covering about 7,000 km of roads under reconstruction and construction of the roads together with the previously approved road projects for 3,800 km are planned to be implemented by 2026.
According to information on the previously approved projects, 3,868 km of roads are planned to be reconstructed:
- Center - South (955 km): Akmola, Karaganda, Zhambyl, and Almaty regions;
- Center - East (46 km): Akmola, Pavlodar, and East Kazakhstan regions;
- South-Western bypass of Nur-Sultan (34 km): Akmola region;
- Kokshetau - Petropavlovsk - Kurgan (67 km): Akmola and North Kazakhstan regions;
- Kostanai - Denisovka (114 km): Kostanai region;
- Aktobe - Atyrau - Astrakhan (732 km): Aktobe and Atyrau regions;
- Podstepnoye - Fedorovka (144 km): West Kazakhstan region;
- Merke - Burylbaital (266 km): Zhambyl region;
- Uzynagash - Otar (96 km): Almaty and Zhambyl regions;
- Bypass of Balpyk bi and Baktybai (19 km): Almaty region;
- Taldykorgan - Ust-Kamenogorsk (763 km): Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions;
- Usharal - Dostyk (185 km): Almaty region;
- Kalbatau - Maikapshagai (415 km): East Kazakhstan region;
- Osinovsky pass (32 km): East Kazakhstan region.
As for the new projects, construction of 6,907 km is planned in Kazakhstan:
- Center - West (Nur-Sultan - Arkalyk - Irgiz - Shalkar - Kandyagash, 1273 km): Akmola, Kostanai, and Aktobe regions
- Kyzylorda - Pavlodar - Uspenka (1316 km): Kyzylorda, Karaganda, and Pavlodar regions;
- Zhezkazgan - Petropavlovsk (929 km): Karaganda, Kostanai, Akmola, and North Kazakhstan regions;
- Zhanaozen - border of Turkmenistan (169 km): Mangistau region;
- Beineu - Shalkar (500 km): Mangistau and Aktobe regions;
- Karaganda - Ayagoz - Bugaz (921 km): Karaganda and East Kazakhstan region;
- Semei - Barnaul (111 km): East Kazakhstan region;
- Uralsk - Atyrau (487 km): West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions;
- Aktobe - Karabutak (262 km): Aktobe region;
- Atbasar - Kostanai - border of Russia (595 km): Akmola and Kostanai regions;
- Kentau - Turkestan - Arystanbab - Shaulder - Tortkol (with bypass of Turkestan, 74 km): Turkestan region;
- Kulsary - Mukur (150 km): Atyrau region;
- Ust-Kamenogorsk - Shemonaikha - border of Russia (120 km): East Kazakhstan region.
“When planning the republican budget for 2020-2022, expenses in the amount of KZT1.2 trillion have been supported, in particular, KZT454 billion for 2020, where KZT206.5 billion are for the projects of construction and reconstruction of the republican roads”, the Ministry informed.
The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development noted that these measures will allow raising the share of national roads in good and satisfactory condition to 100% in 2025.
Meanwhile, 4,400 km of roads will be constructed and reconstructed this year. So, KZT213 billion are allocated for the implementation of these projects, where KZT102.1 billion has already been disbursed.
The Ministry added that by the end of 2019, opening of 641 km of the roads for traffic is expected. In particular, Nur-Sultan - Pavlodar, Schuchinsk - Zerenda, Beineu - Akzhigit, Zhetybai - Zhanaozen, Taskesken - Bakhty, and Temirtau - Karaganda road sections will be fully completed.
