Kazakhstan adopts the world experience in ensuring traffic safety

Representatives of the national road industry attended the Third World Ministerial Conference for Road Safety held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Road accident statistics tops record levels around the world. According to official figures, 1 billion 35 million people die in road accidents, and 50 million people get injuries of varying severity. To date, traffic accidents are the main cause of death among children and young people aged 5 to 29 years. Measures to address this issue were discussed at an international forum organized by the government of Sweden and the World Health Organization. 1,500 delegates from 80 countries of the world, including Kazakhstan, exchanged experience in implementing programs to reduce the number of road accidents and identified strategic approaches for ensuring road safety.

Thus, during the event, the conference participants approved the Stockholm declaration, which contains, in particular, a proposal to hold a meeting of the UN General Assembly on road safety at the level of heads of states and governments. As for practical steps put in the document, a special part is given to measures for acceleration of the transition to safer, more environmentally friendly modes of transport, and for ensuring timely access to high-quality medical aid, and to strengthen control over the speed of vehicles.

The Kazakhstan delegation, consisted of representatives of the National Center for Quality of Road Assets under the Committee for Roads of MIID RK, has held a number of bilateral meetings and took part in a seminar to discuss global trends in road safety.

The participation of Kazakhstan in the ministerial meeting in Stockholm and the substantive exchange of experience will contribute to attracting modern technologies and best practices to the development of road safety in our country.

It shall be noted that Sweden implements a new approach to road safety named Vision Zero, which has been adopted by other countries of the world.
