Good afternoon! Very interesting and useful website. I would like to know about Kordai pass, as follows. They say that the constructed Transit Corridor will go around this pass, i.e. By-pass will go through Otar settlement. Can it really be that in the near future we will forget our troubles, connected with this “ill-fated” pass? Also, I would like to know, what company is the Contractor for this section of the road?

Dear Oraz! Design documents for construction “Kordai By-Pass” were prepared in 2009. Its length is 80 km and starts at 162 km of the highway Almaty –Taraz – Shymkent, i.e. where the branch line goes to Otar settlement. The finish is near Kainar settlement at 260 km of the highway.
By-pass will be constructed in two stages. Highway with two lane traffic will be constructed on the first stage. Then it will be widen till four lanes. Coating is cement concrete, except for submountain section, where for the length of 13 km, aiming at the increase of tire grip, the coating will be arranged from crushed stone mastic asphalt concrete.
Maximum longitudinal slope is 4%, which as per “SNiP RK 3.03-09-2006” provides safe speed for car traffic 120 kilometers per hour.
At present bidding procedures have been conducted for determination of Contractor and Engineer.
