During the period from June 13 to 17, 2016 course on “Land acquisition, resettlement and social stability” took place in Almaty

In Almaty during the period from June 13 to 17, 2016 the World Bank arranged a course on land acquisition, resettlement and social stability. This practical course was intended for professional-practicians as well as for science-based staff, whose interests are in practical aspects of displacement and resettlement related to investment projects.  

Among the participants there were representatives and employees from the following organizations: Ministry of Investments and Development of the RoK, Ministry of Health, branches of «Kazavtozhol» JSC and the head office and branches of «KazDorNII» JSC, the Fergana Valley Water Management Board, Karashyganak Petroleum Operating, Almaty oblast Land Relations Department, Land Relations Department of Aktobe oblast Irgyz district, «Zhol sapa» LLP, FCG Finnish Consulting Group, Agency of community development and investment,  Nazar Business and Technology, Ukrhydrenergy, Al Mar Consulting, Witteveen+Bos, DushanbeWatercanal.

The course trainers Mr. Frederic Jowannaetti, Mike Stine and Mrs. Vera Ogorodnikova are the leadings international professional-practicians on social impact and resettlement assessment, and they brought to the attention of participants land acquisition and resettlement experiences. Besides, representatives of the World Bank Mrs. Angela Khaminva and Mrs. Ekaterina Romanova, ad Mr. Jost German from Groningen University made their own reports.     

The training course program included holding of the lectures and seminars, including case studies; group works, including a presentation from each group, which was demonstrated on the last day of the training and interactive works, too.    

The course aimed at ability development on social problems and risks management caused by land acquisition and arrangements related to resettlement as a result of private and state investment projects (for example, mines, dams, highways, manufacturing parks, overhead electric lines, agriculture developments e.t.c.)

The course is based on advanced international experiences, standards, and thematic examples.

According to results of week-long course all participants were awarded with certificates about completion of the course.
