"Almaty-Khorgos" road section with the length of 304 km (I category with 4-lanes and cement-concrete pavement) has been implementing since 2013.
International bank for development and reconstruction is funding source. The total cost of contracts is 120,3 billion tenge.
Construction works are conducted on 8 sections on which 4 Contractors are involved: Dogush Insaat Ve Ticaret JSC and Gulsan Insaat Sanayi Turizm NAC Ve Tic JSC (Turkey), JV Todini & Impregilo & Kazakhdorstroy (Italy/Italy/Kazakhstan), JV Evrascon & MO-1 (Azerbaijan/Kazakhstan), OHL ZS (Czech Republic) where the volume of completed work on the main road constructive layers constitutes of the following:
- 360 km on construction of roadbed;
- 268 km on construction of CSSM base course;
- 263 km on construction of cementconcrete pavement.
In parallel with it works on road furniture and construction of engineering structures, including construction of bridge structures on which main works are performed at the moment with the planned completion in the current year.
Work completion under the section is planned for 2016.
At the same time, this project is an integral part of "Western Europe – Western China" International transit corridor and economic researches showed that the project will bring benefits for Kazakhstan in the form of annual savings from cost reduction under maintenance of ATS, savings from reducing transit time, benefit from reducing road accidents, increase in foreign trade till 2020 expressed in expansion of export and import for 32% and 33% respectively.
According to the conducted researches within the framework of development of the feasibility study on this project it is expected that by the end of project implementation the general cargo flow will increase by 2,5 times and it will constitute about 33 million tons per year.
