In 2009 the Loan Agreement was signed between the Republic of Kazakhstan and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development on reconstruction of Western Europe – Western China International Transit Corridor.
Road reconstruction in Kyzylorda and South-Kazakhstan regions has been completed in this year. There have been savings in IBRD (World Bank) loan resulted from the above project implementation.
The Government has decided to use these savings for implementation of Kurty – Burylbaital and Uzynagash – Otar road projects and thus Addendum to the Agreement was signed between the Republic of Kazakhstan and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development on 26th of September 2017.
Reconstruction of these road sections is provided for by the Nurly Zhol State Program of Infrastructure Development for 2015-2019.
Kurty – Burylbaital road section of 85 km long (I Category four-lane road) belongs to Center-South Corridor and is a part of Astana – Karaganda – Balkhash – Kurty – Kapshagai – Almaty Republican Road.
Uzynagash – Otar road section of 96 km long (I Category four-lane road) is a part of Almaty – Kordai – Blagoveshchenka – Merke – Tashkent – Termez Republican Road.
Estimated cost of reconstruction of these two sections is US$319.2 million including World Bank Loan in the amount of US$271.3 million and co-financing from the republican budget in the amount of US$47.9 million.
The Committee for Roads of the Ministry for Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has proceeded to selection of Contractors as well as construction supervision consultants. The Contract Agreements for the above projects will be made after Loan Agreement enters into force.
The completion of the works on the road sections is planned in 2021.
