During the visit, made to the region by the arrived delegation, including Mr. Erbol Orynbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Azat Bekturov, Vice Minister of Transport and Communications, work progress for construction of transit corridor was discussed, as well as matters of development for roadside services, perspectives of further development for cooperation between the Government of the RK and World Bank in transport sector on the whole.
As Press-Service of Ngozi Okondjo Iveala informs – “improvement of this key infrastructure has already demonstrates this fact that it can serve as the considerable stimulus for the growth of economy, creating working places, providing more efficient movement of goods and people, increasing traffic safety and strengthening industrial, agricultural and commercial activity along this historical road”.
References: Total length of Transit Corridor “Western Europe – Western China” is 8 445 km, including 2 787 km, which pass throughout the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. World Bank finances works for the road section from border of Aktobe Oblast – Kyzylorda – Shymkent, with total length of 1062 km for the amount of US $2 125million.
“Cooperation between Bank, other Financial institutions and governmental agencies concerned, created conditions for successful implementation of the Project. 21 Contracts have been signed, provided by the Project for execution of construction works in Kyzylorda and South-Kazakhstan regions”, the distributed press-release mentions.
According to Okondjo Iveala, Project goes ahead successfully. Its impact is rather appreciable over the development of the construction industry and the process for creation of working places. So, about 30 000 of new working places have been created within Project implementation so far.
