The length of the highway “Western Europe – Western China” for Almaty Oblast is 460.5 km. One of them is the designed section for Almaty Oblast for 336.7 km, including the designed section of “Almaty – Khorgos”, which is 304.5km.
The works for acquisition of land plots for construction (reconstruction) of the highway have been started by Almaty Regional Department in March 2010. However, since March 10, 2011 this procedure was suspended in connection with enforcement of the Act of the Republic of Kazakhstan “About government property”. All the documents were given to the local executive bodies to continue works for acquisition.
Overall 769 land plots were subjected to acquisition in Oblast in 2010-2011 with total area of 2 883.39 hectares, including 45 (802.51 ha), which in accordance with the Decree of the Government belong to the governmental users and forest funds.
Public hearings have been conducted in Oblast, with invitation of the community, living in villages and district centers, through the territory of which the corridor will pass. As the Regional Department informs, these days the development of the Resettlement Action Plan will be finalized in accordance with the requirements of the World Bank.
As per the status for the end of the current year, overall 667 land plots have been purchased by Almaty Regional Department for Roads and Akimat of Almaty Oblast out of 673 land plots, subjected to acquisition for the state needs, in 2011.
