After visiting of the historical monument, the participants continued their travel along the road. Road section of the Korean company “Posco Engineering” has become their next stop in the route, where at present the construction of cement concrete is in progress.
Chairman of the Committee for Roads MTC, Zamir Saginov, told the participants about difference between crushed stone mastic asphalt concrete and cement concrete. Saginov mentioned that “the advantages of cement concrete pavement are high strength, evenness and, at the same time, sufficient roughness, providing good grip of car wheels with the surface of the road.
We can mention that 119 km of cement concrete pavement have already been laid for the road section Turkestan – Shymkent up to 24th October.
The participants of information tour have been shown the work of concrete paving complex. The same place, at the object, they took part in experiment, during which they could determine the quality of concrete mix and took sample of setting concrete for further testing at the laboratory.
On the way to the laboratory the participants of information tour have asked the road builders, why concrete pavement has been cut and why it is not sprinkled with salt when surface icing.
Director of South-Kazakhstan regional department for Roads, Arman Kaiyrbekov explained that «those are the requirements of technology. Concrete pavement has been specially cut into equal slabs. What can happen if a glass of water freezes? It will split into pieces, because water freezes and has been expanded. Concrete reacts in the same way to the temperature variation. That’s why if it is not cut it can explode. It is not sprinkled with salt only during the first year after construction. This is also required by technology».
In the laboratory with the help of special devices they checked the quality of concrete samples, having determined a number of parameters, particularly, the index of pressure, when the destruction of the material occurs.
70 km away from Taraz an Australian, Dug Davis, has joined the information tour group, who is at present in Kazakhstan and controls construction of road ‘Western Europe – Western China” in Zhambyl Oblast. He told the participants about the projects, where he participated, particularly, about his work for the design of race circuit “Formula – 1”, as well as about his present obligations.
In the end of the second day the participants of information tour were shown how highway striping was made. Tomorrow they are to open traffic along one of the road sections of the highway ‘Western Europe – Western China” in Zhambyl Oblast.
