Commissioning of the Kazakhstan section of Western Europe-Western China transport corridor is scheduled in 2017. This was reported by the press office of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
"At the end of the next year we plan to open traffic along the entire length of Kazakhstan section of the transport corridor. However, the putting into operation of our section tentatively is scheduled in 2017, because it is necessary to build a border envtry checkpoint with China. Currently, development of design estimates of the checkpoint has only been started"- this was reported by press office of the Prime Minister of the country with reference to Mr. Amangeldi Bekov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Roads of Ministry for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan.
"Traffic in our sector of the route will be open, but the road as a transit corridor will only start in late 2016 - early 2017, after the checkpoint will be built," - he explained. According to his information, the volume of traffic on "Western Europe-Western China" corridor in the Kazakhstan section is tentatively expected to 30 million tons per year.
"Western Europe-Western China” Transport corridor starts from Western Europe and ends in Western China. Highway should improve transport links between Europe and Asia. Construction began in 2008 and is scheduled for completion in 2015. The total length of the corridor through Kazakhstan is 2,787 km.
