Sociological research under “Center – South” project was held from 13 to 19 August 2015
Within the framework of Infrastructure development state program “Nurly Zhol” for 2015-2019 the Committee for Roads of MID RoK plans to implement “Center – South” project, “Karaganda – Balkhash – Burylbaital” road section, which is planned to be financed from the loan of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
 
“Center – South” transport corridor passes through three regions (Almaty, Zhambyl and Karaganda) and 6 districts of these regions.
 
Prelimenary length of sections under the districts is as follows:
Zhambyl district – 65 km.
Moyinkum district – 115 km.
Aktogai district – 90 km
Along Balkhash city – 125 km
Shet district - 125 km
Abai district - 135 km.
 
The subject of research is a problem connected with the influence of transport infrastructure on the socio-economic conditions of the population. The parties of the study were stakeholders and road users: population, employees of state and budget organizations, entrepreneurs.
 
In order to cover more target group of the project, a survey of the population of villages adjacent to the road had been carried out. Questionnaires covered about 300 people from 9 settlements affected by the project.
 
In addition to the questionnaire in three major settlements focus groups were held with representatives from local government offices, farms, educational and health care institutions, transport organizations and structures as the most frequently contacting with the public and most fully knowing their needs.
 
The collected data will be analyzed and presented in a report that includes the necessary tables and charts that allow drawing conclusions about the impact of construction on the socio-economic situation in the region.
